Not quite my taste in metal, but fans of this genre of metal will be happy.
My Highlight : Strange Machines by The Gathering.
nothing to lose June 22, 2010 Will D. (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
it's free music and a good number of the bands are mainstream. this is worth downloading purely for Dark Tranquillity's Lost to Apathy. fantastic song
An odd assortment, but free metal is always good May 12, 2010 Justin Gaines (Northern Virginia) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
It's metal and it's free, so ultimately that's what matters, but this is something of an odd sampler from Century Media. As the title suggests, From the Vault essentially throws together 13 tracks, most of which came from (much) older Century Media albums. There's a good range of bands represented here, from gothic metal (Lacuna Coil, Moonspell) to death metal (Dark Tranquillity, Asphyx) to power metal (Firewind, Nocturnal Rites) to...whatever the hell Zimmer's Hole is classified as.
There are some non-album tracks, like Lacuna Coil doing an acoustic version of "Swamped," a live Paradise Lost song ("The Enemy") and radio edits of Tiamat and Moonspell, but most of these are regular album tracks.
I imagine most metal fans already have most of what they'd be interested in hearing on this sampler, but it's a cool (and free, did I mention that?) way for people unfamiliar with the Century Media family of artists to try some new music.
It's hard rock - and it's a pretty good sampler May 10, 2010 Brian (Washington DC) 11 out of 14 found this review helpful
Sometimes, you get rock snobs who can't get past their own issues. This sampler comtains some nice selections from well established and equally well reviewed bands such as Lacuna Coil and Moonspell. While I enjoy these bands and have several of their CDs - and like them, they may not be for everybody but - if you like metal, hard rock, some goth - there's some good stuff - even if you're older than 13 (and not a snob) - so - hey...it's free...enjoy it and don't pay any mind to the snobbery.
soundtrack to a 13-year olds mind April 30, 2010 John D. Olsen (Orange, CA USA) 11 out of 43 found this review helpful
If you're 13 and full of raging hormones and angst then this Wagnerian approach to rock may appeal to you. It's all hysteria and bloat. My lows are lower than yours...no they're not!
