| Customer Reviews: Old School Underground to be sure June 26, 2010 Rockchik (white lake, michigan USA) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Had to bring the rating up a bit. Compared to the 4 and 5 star crap I've had to delete off my computer. This one is a keeper. Makes me wonder about the people downloading for sure. You can SAMPLE the songs you know? duh. Only thing I would agree with is the quality. Could be a bit better but these are not major studio productions either.
Great for Underground Music Fans June 23, 2010 Peter Anderson (Levittown, PA United States) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
Back in '79 I used to listen to two area college weekly radio shows which featured the cutting edge of Punk, New Wave, No Wave, and Noise. (By the way, the shows were "The Crest of the New Wave" on WPRB and "Yesterday's Now Music Today" on WXPN; credit where credit due.) This sampler is very nice for me as it brings back the peculiar visions of artists featured on these shows, such as Suicide, The Contortions, The Bush Tetras, and others.
But wait! This album is not only about non-commercial No Wave music; it also has more "normal" music as well. Just check out "Pi" by Univox. What an energetic track! If this doesn't help you get your housework done faster and better, you don't have a pulse! Work it, people, you've got to move! Also try the track by the Fleshtones for good upbeat music. Hey, and then there's "Drainidge" by Terrorists which sounds like one of the Mad Professor's Reggae/Dub experimental tracks. Of course, there's some raw rock by the New York Dolls, plus a track by their one-time guitarist Johnny Thunders.
Well, I'll be a son-of-a-gun, this is a dang good compilation album: great variety, great underground credibility! Thank you Amazon for bringing about all these nice no charge compilations, this is very generous of you. And thanks to all the starving artists who again give up all hope of making a buck but at least your legacy will live and carry on to the next generation of anyone with a grain of musical curiosity!
It does, in fact, hurt. . .my ears June 21, 2010 Rabbit (Alaska, US) 2 out of 9 found this review helpful
Lyrically, there's nothing here (Caca de Vaca? Come on!) and musically there isn't much either. Save the space on your hard drive and look for something else to download.
you're so wrong! June 8, 2010 archimboldo (oracle, arizona) 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
This is a GREAT!!! sampler of what was out there circa 1980.
It's experimental and weird and noisy and punky and funky - I highly recommend it.
Horrible June 7, 2010 Brandon Zarzyczny (Williamsport, PA USA) 5 out of 18 found this review helpful
This sampler is horrible, I couldn't find one song I liked even a little bit. Add to that the sound quality is really bad. I'm just going to delete it off of my computer now.
