5 out of 5 stars No, you know what Ernie, you're friggin awesome!   August 26, 2010

All of these songs have soul, passion, warmth, ugh, just everything you'd give your right nut to have! AND IT DOESN'T GET BETTER THAN THIS CUS IT'S FREE! You'd have to be a FOOL not to at least try and listen. And this guy is awesome, lemme' tell you: he's "friggin awesome"! You won't find this in most modern music because he's got the voice and the attitude made for music. A MUST-LISTEN-TO-RIGHT-NOW-ALBUM-AND-BE-A-M-A-Z-E-D.

I love singer/songwriters and so this was right up my alley. Sounds a little like Jackie Green.

Just wanted to send a huge Thank You to Ernie for giving us something to work with until the album drops so soon. I'm pretty sure I told all of my friends that now they have no excuse not to be musically educated! I get something new from Ernie's music every time I listen. Even if it wasn't free, I'd still get it. It's worth having good, soulful, quality music on my ipod!

This is my first taste of Ernie Halter. The other posters here seem to be fans of his and so I understand them thanking him for free music. This was a very nice thing to do for his fans. These eight tracks are all rather nice, and if I were a die-hard follower and fan I'd probably be plain ecstatic to have more stuff from him. Alas, I'm not a former fan and so judging this as an introduction to the singer I have to confess that I am less that impressed.

Ernie has a great voice, but this collection is uneven and rather unimpressive.

The sole standout is the laid back standard `My Heart Is With You'. It is soft and sweet and beautifully done. Still, there is nothing overly brilliant about it. It is, however, an excellent song.

After that though, the collection teeters on decent with moments of horridness. Songs like `Gone' are nicely done (albeit nothing special). I think that is my main complaint with the album as a whole is that it just doesn't grab me. It seems rather lazy to be honest. `Gone' has a great vibe to it but Ernie doesn't do anything special with it. There is no climax, no moment, and while not every song needs one (and really, every song shouldn't have them otherwise they'd lose their appeal), each album should have a few and this one has none. There are no songs here that make you go "WOW" and every album needs something like that to make it complete.

I like the live cuts of `Count the Days' and `Blue Dress'. I love the barroom bluesy feel to them. That said, they are still rather standard fare for the genre. I'd like to hear more from him in this style though.

He's apparently having fun.

`Lisa' was a disappointment for me since it was probably my favorite track going in. It started so beautifully and it had such personality, but the lyrics become redundant and kind of annoying towards the end of the song. That said, the song had real promise and even reminded me of the something Jason Mraz could have done.

`Yes I Am' is obnoxious and lazy, `You're Awesome' was sweet yet absolutely nothing to be proud of and `Crazy Love' sounded like something put on by a Cruise Ship Band. I mean, what was that! It doesn't fit with the album at all and is something that any credible artist should be ashamed of. It is cheesy and tacky and cheap sounding.

SO...he has a nice voice (kind of reminds me of Elliott Yamin) but this is not a great collection by any means. I'll check out some of his other stuff, giving him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe these were just throwaway B-sides.

But then again, maybe they aren't.
