5 out of 5 stars Overlooked Masterpiece   September 3, 2010

I must admit that when I first heard about this collaboration album with Nas and Damian Marley. I kind of forgot about it quickly. In an era where marketing money dictates what songs and albums get attention and what songs and albums don't. It's real easy for any artist or project to kind of get lost in the shuffle. Radio kind of plays 10 to 15 artists and most of it is based on the type of money that is spent by the labels.

I just recently purchased this album and I must say that this is a true masterpiece. From start to finish. Damian Marley and Nas make beautiful music together. Two outstanding lyricists with great style and great substance.

As a music fan, You are really doing yourself a disservice if you don't at the very least listen to a song on this album called "Patience". The song itself is deep. The lyrics are extremely clever and meaningful. Damian Marley channels his father in a way, I feel like he never has before. His dad would have been proud.

5 out of 5 stars Great Album!   August 31, 2010

With how terrible new music is these days. I caught wind of how good this album was, I was skeptical at first but after listening to a few songs on youtube I decided to pick up the album. Such a solid album, I can't remember the last time I heard something so well put together. I won't say this is going to save rap because there is so much more crap being made than good music, but it definitely is a breath of fresh air.

WOW!!! This album is great in sooo many ways. Nas and Damian's chemistry in this album is amazing. They both feed off each other and every verse has true meaning to it. Must have if your into conscious music.

To be completely honest, I did not know what to expect from this album. I considered it to be hit or miss with this combo. I was pleasantly surprise to have stumbled across a masterpiece of contemporary music. This by no means is pop music though it can be appreciated by wide audience. The music is exceptionally well put together, Damian and Stephen Marley did an excellent job. Nas and Damian have good chemistry and play well off each other's specific expertise.
Overall, A great album and Damian Marley is the star of the show. I can't wait for their next solo and joint projects.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant Collaboration   August 23, 2010

"Distant Relatives" is a beautiful and inspirational hip hop album. Anyone who believe the hip hop genre celebrates nothing more than mysogny and degeneracy needs to listen to this album. Every track is a masterpiece. The album's songs touch on a multitude of themes such peace, unity, regeneration and self improvement. What elevates this album into a classic, though, is the exceptional collaborative chemistry between Nas and Damien Marley. In this album they've managed to fuse reggae and rap into one of the most unique and artful sounds I've ever heard. This album may rate as the best work Nas has ever produced and he is the author of what is widely considered among the three best hip hop albums of all time, "Illmatic". Coming from someone who considers Radiohead's "The Bends" as his all time favorite, "Distant Relatives" is one of the best albums I've heard in years.
